A Hundred Blessings, Woven to Home celebrates the idea of “a hundred people gathering blessings,” symbolising the return of good fortune to the home. One hundred unique scripts each write the character “福” (Blessing), coming together like a shimmering river of light, while the single character “家” (Home) gathers them all, transforming into a warm and welcoming sanctuary. Blessings represent the wishes we place on a home, and a home is where these wishes find their true resting place. More than a ceremonial display, this exhibition is a journey back to cultural roots, where blessings flourish through reunion and hearts find peace in belonging. A hundred blessings in heart, all returning home.
Following the resounding success of the “Decade of Trees, Century of People” planting ceremony in January, the Singapore Lam Ann Association continued its momentous Centennial Celebrations with a second flagship event: “Home Receiving 100 Blessings” (家纳百福 • 户迎千祥).
On the bright morning of February 7th, the Lee Kong Chian Hall was abuzz with energy as nearly 180 members, council leaders, and their families gathered to celebrate a century of heritage. We were deeply honored to have Mr. Ng Shi Xuan, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC and our Honorary Advisor, grace the occasion as the Guest of Honor.
The proceedings began with a solemn prayer session at the historic Hong San See Temple. This was followed by a symbolic tree-planting ceremony led by generous donors, Mr. Lim Soon Heng and Mr. Ong Chai Poh. Each shovel of soil represented not just the planting of a tree, but the deepening of our roots in Singapore, ensuring that the Lam Ann spirit continues to flourish for generations to come.
The centerpiece of the event was the Gilding of the “100 Blessings” Wall. Ten long tables were set up, where members spanning three generations worked side-by-side. With brushes dipped in gold lacquer, participants meticulously painted wooden tiles, each carved with the character “Fu” (Blessing) in a unique traditional Chinese calligraphic style.
The artistic concept carries a profound meaning. As one of the organizers reflected, “Every ‘Fu’ character is written differently, just as every Lam Ann family has walked a unique path over the last century.” Each family has its own story, its own struggles, and its own triumphs. Yet, despite these differences, all 100 distinctive “Fu” tiles are arranged to surround a massive, central character: “Jia” (Family/Home), which was completed by our Guest of Honor and Association leadership.
This powerful visual metaphor reminds us that while our individual journeys may vary, we are ultimately united by our shared ancestry and our belonging to the great Lam Ann “Big Family.”
This completed masterpiece is more than just an art installation; it is a physical manifestation of our collective unity. It is destined to become a permanent feature in our upcoming new headquarters—a project set to revitalize our clan’s home for the next century. These golden tiles, imbued with the blessings and efforts of today’s members, will stand as a testament to our history, passing down luck and prosperity to our future descendants.
The event concluded with a grand group photograph and a warm communal lunch, strengthening bonds among kinsmen. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for making this historic day possible and look forward to seeing you at our next innovation-themed event in March.
