Date: 9 May 2026
Venue: Lam Ann Association, Singapore
On the morning of 9 May 2026, close to 200 participants arrived at the Lam Ann Association Building filled with excitement to attend the fifth instalment of the Association’s centenary celebration series organised by the Lam Ann Association.
Centred on the traditional virtues of loyalty, filial piety, compassion, and righteousness, the event showcased the enduring values of responsibility, respect for elders, care for others, and moral integrity through historical figures and classic stories. Honorary Advisor Dr Lee Bee Wah officiated the opening ceremony and delivered the welcome address.
A themed exhibition was also set up on site, guiding participants to better understand these values within a contemporary context through clear and engaging displays.
The Head of the Cultural Group, Xu Liya, also demonstrated live calligraphy, using a four-foot brush to boldly inscribe the four characters “忠孝仁义” (Loyalty, Filial Piety, Compassion, and Righteousness) in the open plaza.
In addition, an interactive jigsaw puzzle activity was organised, dividing participants into four groups to assemble large puzzles representing each of the four virtues—loyalty, filial piety, compassion, and righteousness. Participants of all ages worked together enthusiastically, with laughter filling the space throughout the activity.
All participants were presented with commemorative badges as a symbol of cultural continuity and heritage preservation.
In her speech, Dr Lee stated that traditional virtues such as loyalty, filial piety, compassion, and righteousness are values that must be continuously upheld and carried forward. She shared that the Nan Ann Association’s efforts in promoting these virtues are deeply encouraging.
She also expressed the hope that, in a diverse society, people from all backgrounds can appreciate the relevance of these traditional values in today’s context, and put them into practice in their daily lives while continuing to uphold and promote them.
